I met my sisters roommate finally. She is a riot! Alot of fun to hang out with. Although, for all her cuteness, good taste in music and enigmatic wit, she impressed me even more with her quiescent companionship. She is one of the most gracious receivers of attention that I have had the privilege of meeting. Most girls fall into one of two categories: The girls that believe that everyone owes them attention, so they behave accordingly, demanding, flouncing around and otherwise doing anything necessary to ensure all eyes are on them at all times; then there are the girls who believe that they are not deserving of attention from anyone. Acting accordingly, then do not take compliments well, if at all. They can’t look you in the eye nor hold up their end of any conversation, and are interminably hard to spend time with no matter what great characteristics drew one to them in the first place.
Nikki on the other hand falls almost perfectly in between these two areas. She is extremely easy to talk to, doesn’t mind sharing her thoughts, and takes a compliment wonderfully. She lacks the condescension of a woman who ‘knows’ that she is gods gift to mankind, but still manages to never act as if there were anything less than perfect about her, quite hard to explain, but it is especially fun to be around.
I cooked dinner for Lis, Nikki, and Emily on Sunday night and Jed and a guy named Adam showed up. While Jed was ignoring me and my sister and Emily played guitar and sang duets, Nikki provided a constant source of unique companionship in the kitchen. Warm, mildly conversational and very helpful she was the highlight of the weekend, after seeing my sister.
In spite of the fact that she had to go to work at 5 am Monday morning, Nikki stayed up and talked with me till after 3 am on Sunday night. I loved every minute of it. We looked through (and laughed at) her high school year books, told stories about crazy friends, haircuts, family members, whatever.
Thanks, Nikki, for showing me those special sides of you. Thanks for the warm and easy manner in which you shared your space with me. I enjoyed your eyes.
