Tuesday
I’m the last one here again. No real reason why, I’m working distractedly like a punch drunk boxer, occasionally hitting the target but mostly just swinging lazily at whatever comes into range.
I’ve been at work for over 28 hours now with satisfactory but not exemplary results, but I just can’t find any reason to go home. Though the physical situation of my house remains absolutely unchanged from when I last darkened the doorstep 5 days ago, it just seems like it would be too empty today. Then again, I have a very needy kitten. Satori is going to be pissed.
Driving by Dale’s house to say hi, I check out the pool and almost jump in clothed the temperature is so nice. The kids and I run around getting into things until the sun is down and my body informs me that it’s time. Driving back the long way through town, I am facing east to the nocturnal horizon. The moon is rising, the color of old blood stains on white sheets; dirty, not the vivid red splash of life that it may once have been.
Some of the greatest things in my life are destined to happen this year. The future holds nothing but promise, I have nowhere to go but up. It’s just hard to see it tonight, lacking anyone to share the view with.
