Back in Black

Well, last night was great, got some work done… got to talk to a beautiful woman for a couple hours… ripping all the video from the atlanta trip. I wasn’t up too late (unlike some people i know) and had some interesting realizations.

It’s funny how a grain of sand can stay in between your toes. It’s arrival there isn’t usually surprising, because something that small can get just about anywhere. Sometimes, however, it simply refuses to be shaken loose. Running on the beach or here in the desert, this is an common occurence. Sand in your shoes is an understood problem and everyone deals with it in their own way. You can feel it in your adidas and sense the path it takes through your socks, but when it finds that place between your toes and rubs and rubs and rubs, cutting through layer after layer of protective flesh; aggravating is not a strong enough word. Eventually you either accept the fact that you will never again be comfortable, or you stop, sit down, take off your shoe and dig that sonofabitch out. Then you can start running again; trying to outrace the sand once more.

The bad thing about sand is that there is never a shortage of it. There are about 748 googleplex grains of sand for each one of my feet. So as long as I am ambulatory I will be stopping occasionally to dig out the sand before I can continue.

I’m dealing with sand today. All I need to do is take off the damn shoe and dig it out. This normally isn’t a problem for me but it seems that someone has stolen my laces and replaced them with iron bars and locks; making the removal process of this problem something of an impossible task without the help of a blow torch or bolt cutters. I know the tools I need, but they are proving elusive. Maybe by the end of the day I will have figured this out.

Mom always said things look better in the morning. Well, mom, today you are a liar.
