This is especially neat (or is it expecially?)

Do you say bag, beg, or baig when referring to your backpack?

What would you do with a dead body in a pool? (yikes)

Do you know what a Jesus Bug is?

How about a Peenie Wallie?

Whilst the last one might sound like that kid in grade school that took his pants off in the lunch room, it’s not.  Some guys from Harvard and MIT who had nothing better to do, decided to run around the US and ask everyone the same questions… you’d be AMAZED at some of the answers they got.

The idea was to regionally categorize dialects and slang.  See how them damn yankees (sorry, lord) differed from the southerners (among others) in their speech patterns and choice of words.  It’s a fun little diversion for the day.  And it’s going to be a long one today.

I’m overseeing a remote hardware deployment in SoCal today from my desk here in AZ.  My techs on site are the evolutionary equivalent of chimpanzees; ritually shaven and strung out on freebase.  I have high hopes for the evening.

So go poke around and learn some new words.  http://cfprod01.imt.uwm.edu/Dept/FLL/linguistics/dialect/ <-- click on the Map & Results link after the page loads.

Until next time, Cocola!
