RIP Stephen Asbill

My friend Steve was killed this week. He and a passenger were killed in a car wreck.

Steve and I have known each other for a number of years, having been introduced by his brother Chris. Until last month Steve and I had not spoken for almost two years. He was a good friend and a solid person. Entrepreneurial beyond belief, he was always involved in some far reaching business deal.

For a short while, I lived at Steve’s house during a rough patch in my own life. At the time Steve owned a company that made video games, so the whole back portion of the house was set up with computers that we spent our evenings and weekends on defending castles and the like. Steve had an indefatigable good nature and simply his presence was therapeutic.

We had a chance meeting one night a couple months back at a restaurant in Scottsdale and chatted for a few minutes in person. We spent a lot of email time since then talking about the trials of our lives recently and he had some great insight for me as always. His good nature and great personality gave me a new angle on things that bore me down.

This Saturday was to be his Annual Man Night party complete with fried foods, poker, and general testosterone overload. No girls allowed.

Instead, this Saturday will be his funeral. All who knew him are welcome.

I know that not everyone who knew Steve has heard about this, so I’m putting the information here on the off chance that some of those people will do a drive by.

Thanks for posting this. It came up on a Google search. After receiving the email yesterday I was searching for information. Anything else you know is appreciate. Thanks again for posting.

  3. Kristi says:

Steve was my brother Kyle’s first friend when we moved to Arizona 21 years ago. We lived across the street from the Asbill’s for four years and watched the boys grow together. Kyle and Steve remained close and had a very special bond. Steve will be missed by so many and remembered with a smile and a place in our hearts.
May you rest in peace Steve and be the angel watching over all of your family and friends.

Steve and I have been friends since third grade- I never thought this could happen. So sudden and devistating. I just went to the gun range with Steve a few weeks ago and have been talking to him on the phone and email- this does not seem real.

I have so many incredible memories from all those many years. I really cannot express in words what I and many others are feeling at this time.

I really miss you buddy. Kyle

  5. Steve and I were dating at the time of his accident. We were supposed to leave for Cancun on Friday, the 28th.

    This all seems so unreal.

    I miss you, Steve.

  7. Gina says:

It was overwhelming to see how many friends Steve has today at his memorial service. Knowing Steve for only two years I am not surprised how many loved and cared. I pray and hope for some sort of inner peace for his family and those so close to him. He certainly touched so many in his short time here. Please remember always what he has meant to all of you.

  8. Sarge says:

Steve’s passing was a shock to us. I’d just received his invite to the Annual Man Party and we had just chatted a few days before his death. Thanks for putting this memorial posting up because google hits were scarce with details. Steve and I met at the local CFUG. We also partnered on several adventures and he was uber-Entreprenuerial. I’ve only know Steve for 5 years or so but my kids know him as uncle Steve. I will forever remember his smile and his enthusiasm for business.

  9. Jen Fowler says:

Steve and I became friends back when we were in grade school. Within the last couple of years we had the chance to reconnect and keep in touch via email. It was such a shock to here the news of his death. He was such an amazing guy and was loved by so many.

    I’ll miss you Steve. RIP.

  10. Cheryl says:

My sincere condolences to all of you. I was saddened to hear of this. I never had the pleasure of meeting Steve in person, only through the CFUG group online. I know he will be greatly missed.

  11. Tanya says:

No matter how much time passes, I still miss him. He was my very best friend. It is so un fair that he is gone. I loved Steve like I love my own family. :(
